Time limit extended to claim refund for cancelled train tickets

Visakhapatnam: Indian Railways extends the time limit beyond six months for the cancellation of passenger reservation system (PRS) counter tickets and refund of fare across reservation counters for the journey period March 21, 2020 to July 31, 2020.

According to a statement released by the Railway Ministry, this is applicable only for regular time tabled trains cancelled by Indian Railways.

In case of tickets cancelled through 139 or through the IRCTC's official website, the time limit for surrendering of ticket for the above mentioned period across the reservation counter is up to nine months from the date of journey. After a lapse of six months from the date of journey, many passengers may have deposited the tickets to claims office of zonal railways through TDR or through general application along with original tickets, full refund of fare on such PRS counter tickets shall also be allowed for such passengers.

Earlier, owing to the pandemic situation, the guidelines for cancellation of tickets and refund of fare were issued.

As per instructions for trains cancelled by Railways, relaxation has been given for the submission of PRS counter tickets up to six months from the date of and in case the PRS counter tickets cancelled through 139 or through the website of IRCTC, refund across the counter up to six months from the date of journey.
