Visakhapatnam: Holding a doli (makeshift stretcher), adorning leaves on their heads, villagers from Anantagiri, Koyyuru, Ravikamatham and Rolugunta mandals staged a protest at GVMC Gandhi statue here on Monday.

Earlier, tribals from eight villages belonging to Anantagiri mandal took up the initiative of constructing a muddy road, stretching about 15-km last December.

Responding to their 'Sramadanam', the Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Officer sanctioned Rs 15 crore funds from Panchayat Raj Department to construct a BT road in February. It has been more than 10 months since the proposal for the BT road was made.

However, the tribals expressed concern that the proposal did not make any headway till now. Demanding the officials concerned to provide them BT roads as it would aid the locals in meeting their emergency needs, the tribals took part in the dharna and later took out a rally from GVMC to Collectorate.
