Importance of psychology stressed
Hanamkonda: The importance of psychologists has increased manifold in the country, Kakatiya University Registrar K Purushotham said. He was the chief guest at the two-day national seminar on 'Promoting Positive Psychology Mental Health and Well-being – Challenges and Opportunities', jointly organised by the Department of Psychology and SDLCE of Kakatiya University, concluded at the Senate Hall here on Sunday.
"Issues such as career and marital discords are on rise on par with the urbanisation and globalisation. Intolerance and lack of patience to adjust with others has become a big problem among the people and to overcome them we need psychologists," he said.
SDLCE Director Prof Guguloth Veeranna emphasised the need for introducing positive psychology and social sciences in the curriculum at degree level. Head of Psychology Department and seminar convener Prof V Ramachandram said that during the two-day seminar, which focused on various dimensions of the topic, is a good experience for the students. The research papers submitted by the delegates to help the varsity students a lot, he said.
KU Vice-Principal Dayakar Rao said that need for psychologists has increased in almost all the fields. Prof M Sarangapani said that psychology plays a key role in personality development of a person.
Osmania University Prof P Swathi, Dr Uma Rani, Dr LK Reddy of SV University, Dr K Subrahmanyam of Periyar University and SDLCE Press and Media In-charge Dr Sangala Ephraim Raj were among others present.
