Warangal gets first gurukul Sainik school
Warangal: Aimed at preparing tribal students for a career in armed forces, the government has transformed the existing tribal welfare school in Ashok Nagar of Warangal Rural district into a Gurukul Sainik School with necessary infrastructure.
Inaugurating the Tribal Gurukul Sainik School on Thursday, Tribal Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod said that it was first-of-its-kind in the country. The war tank gifted by the military was the highlight at the school. She expressed hope that the school would provide a huge platform for the Adivasi students to excel in their career.
"All the credit goes to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who made it possible for the tribal students. The CM wants tribal students to stand on par with affluent and other sections of the society," Rathod said. Telangana has more number of gurukul schools than other States in the country. The government is spending Rs 1.25 lakh on each student per annum, she said.
Even though the Covid-19 pandemic has hit the economy of the State, the government never stepped back in releasing funds for the education sector, the Minister said. Referring to the success of 40 scheduled tribe girl students, who secured admission in the medicine, she commended Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS) Secretary RS Praveen Kumar for it.
The Minister said that the tribal gurukul sainik school will have a horse-riding facility soon.
Mahabubabad MP Maloth Kavitha said that she would strive hard to set up a sports complex by pursuing the Central government for funds. Stating that the government was providing best facilities on par with the corporate institutions, she told the students to bring accolades to the State by scaling new heights in their career. Warangal Rural District Collector M Haritha said that the Sainik preparatory school would enable students from the marginalised sections to have better representation in the armed forces — Army, Air Force and Navy.
