Warangal: Work in tandem to mitigate mishaps, directs Collector Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu

Warangal: Expressing concern over the growing number of road accidents, Warangal Urban District Collector Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu directed the officials to mitigate the malady. Speaking at a meeting that focused on road safety at the Urban Collectorate on Thursday, he dwelt at length with the officials of the Traffic Division of the Warangal Police Commissionerate to prevent road accidents. The meeting was attended by Commissioner of Police P Pramod Kumar and Municipal Commissioner Pamela Satpathy.

"The need of the hour is to work in tandem effectively to inculcate road safety measures among the people," the Collector said.

Central zone in-charge DCP K Pushpa explained the measures being taken for the prevention of road accidents in the urban district. She emphasised on the need for installing speed guns in the suburban areas where incidence of accidents is more, to keep a tab on speedsters. "We have identified 12 black spots and there was a need for constituting an expert committee to study the reasons behind the prevalence of mishaps," Pushpa said.

She also emphasised the need for constructing road dividers besides removing roadside electric poles and transformers to ease the traffic flow. In view of the ever-increasing number of vehicles in the city, we have identified eight parking places and the administration needs to authorise them, she said.

The officials also discussed about constructing a foot over bridge at Warangal railway station. The necessity of installing electronic speed tracking displays on major roadways as per the directions of the Supreme Court was also discussed.

Commissioner of Police P Pramod Kumar said that they were able to mitigate road accidents significantly this year compared to last year.

Traffic ACP Balaswamy, Kazipet ACP Ravindra Kumar, Transport Deputy Commissioner Purushotham, RTC Regional Manager A Sridhar, Traffic Inspectors Vijay Kumar, Satyanarayana, Naresh, Intezargunj Inspector Venkateshwarlu and officials of R&B and National Highway authority were present.
