Man held for abducting, raping 8-year-old at knifepoint in Rajkot

Rajkot: In a horrific incident, the police have arrested a man for abducting and raping an 8-year-old girl at knifepoint in Rajkot. The accused identified as Hardev Mashru (22), a native of Rajkot and works as a labourer.

According to the police, the victim was kidnapped on Friday night while she was sleeping beside her mother in a public park. The accused took her and raped near Bharatnagar locality. The next day morning, the girl was found lying in the bushes with severe injuries.

On receiving the information, the police reached the spot, shifted the girl to the hospital for medical examination, where doctors confirmed sexual assault on her. With the complaint of the mother, the police registered a case against the accused under sections 363 (kidnapping), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police cracked the case within a few hours of the crime. Based on the CCTV footage, the police arrested the accused.
