Mobile phone theft gang busted, 8 arrested
Hyderabad: City Police on Thursday busted an alleged gang involved in the theft of cell phones under the limits of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police Commissionerates. The police claimed to have recovered 34 stolen cell phones and four two-wheelers from the arrested persons.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said the arrested are Syed Haroon (19), Mohammed Fahad (19), Mohammed Mohsin Alam (19), Mohammed Zubair (22), all air-condition technicians, and Mohammed Zubair (19), an auto meter technician.
The police intercepted the accused when they were found moving on two-wheelers under suspicious circumstances at Mettuguda and found that their mobile phones were in switch off mode. On interrogation by the police, they confessed to have committed 34 offences, on robbery and 33 cell phone snatchings in the limits of three Police Commissionerates.
The Police Commissioner said the accused in a group of four to six used to move on two sports bikes and commit crimes. After stealing the pone, the accused used to switch off the phones and throw out the SIM cards at isolated places.
They used to sell the stolen phones at the rate between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,00 at Jagdish Market and Hong Kong Bazaar. As many as 10 stolen mobile receivers from Jagdish Market and one from Hong Kong Bazaar were also arrested. Out of eight arrested accused, three are juveniles in conflict with law.
