Rapido bike drivers attacked, robbed in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Two Rapido bike drivers were attacked and robbed in a separate incident in Bengaluru in the early hours on Monday. In the two incidents, a gang of three booked Rapido services as customers attacked the drivers and stolen money, mobile phone and bank cards.

A 37 years old Rapido driver Dhaneshwar Bey received a ride alert near Kudlu Gate off Hosur Road at 12:30 am. When he went to the location shown by the app, a man threatened him with a knife and took two mobile phones, a wallet containing cash of Rs 1200, credit and debit cards, and a power bank.

Then he forced him to go to an isolated spot where two of the attacker's associates were waiting. The trio allegedly beat up Dhaneshwar demanding the PIN of his ATM card and withdrew Rs 500 from his card after he gave the PIN. They even forced Dhaneshwar to transfer Rs 160 by Google Pay before the attacker repeatedly stabbed Dhaneshwar on his thigh demanding more money. Dhaneshwar somehow managed to escape and is now receiving treatment at a private hospital.

In another incident, which happened at 2:45 am. A Rapido driver Amal Singh (27) was also robbed in a similar manner by three men. Amal received a ride alert from the app near Parappana Agrahara but when he reached the pickup point, three men took away his mobile phone, wallet containing credit and debit cards, and the jacket he was wearing. Over the information, the police registered a case and investigating further.
