Three get life imprisonment in 2012 gang rape case in Pune

Baramati sessions court has announced the life imprisonment to three accused for gang-raping a married woman on Solapur-Pune national highway in November 2012. The accused identified as Ashok Atmaram Yedake (25), Ganesh Subash Vairage (22), and Gaurav Gandappa Jamadar (20), who belongs to Daund in Pune.

They have been found guilty under Sections 376(2)(g) (committing gang-rape), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property), and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.

On November 22, 2012, the victim (28) was travelling with her husband and two children from Solapur to Panvel in a lorry. When they reached near Kasurdi toll plaza, the three culprits, who were on the bike stopped the vehicle.

The accused duped as police and entered into the truck. Later, they beat up the driver and took the truck to an isolated place and looted the cash, gold ornaments and mobile phone from the woman. The accused then beat up her husband and dragged her out of the cabin and took behind the truck, gang-raped her and flew away from the spot.

After the incident, the victim managed to reach Yavat police station and lodged a complaint. On receiving the information, the police registered an FIR and arrested the accused with the help of sketches and mobile IMEI number, which they took away.

After recording the statements of nine witnesses, including the victim, The Additional Sessions Judge RR Rathi announced the three accused with life imprisonment on Monday.
