Covid-19: Grammy Awards postponed to March 14
Los Angeles: The Recording Academy and broadcaster CBS have issued joint statement to announce that the 63rd Grammy Awards ceremony will now be held on March 14. Earlier, the ceremony was scheduled to be held on January 31. The decision to reschedule the award ceremony was taken due to coronavirus concerns in Los Angeles.
The Recording Academy and CBS released a joint statement on Wednesday said that the Grammy Awards stands delayed after a discussion with the health experts and musicians. "After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards® to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021," a part of the statement read.
Surge in Covid-19 cases in Los Angeles has prompted the organisers to take the decision. "The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do," the statement further added.
