Viral Video: Chinese woman wears an inflatable giraffe costume for protection amid coronavirus
A Chinese woman was seen wearing a giraffe outfit as she visited a hospital in Luzhou, Sichuan province in southwestern China. As coronavirus outbreak many of the country's provinces running out of masks, people are taking on innovative solutions and using random things as security gears. Therefore, while visiting the hospital, the woman decided to wear the inflatable animal suit to obtain the medications for her children. A video of her visit now goes viral online and has received a mixed reaction.
The woman purchased two such costumes online after their masks had expired, according to The Paper. The woman can be seen completely covered from head to toe in the online viral video, with only a transparent plastic film covering her face for her to see through. The video shows the woman with giraffe outfit talking casually with the doctors and other medical staff.
Nevertheless, medical experts have warned that such suits are not enough in such a dire situation to protect yourself from contamination in the midst of an epidemic. These inflatable masks are unable to protect humans from the deadly COVID-19 virus, according to the South China Morning Post. The experts have stressed the need for disinfection of these suits after use.
The woman said her father had been a frequent patient at the hospital before the coronavirus outbreak and to reduce the risk of infecting her ailing elderly father while visiting the hospital, she wanted to go to the hospital herself and ask the doctor to do a virtual consultation with her father through a video call. The video came to light after the recent announcement by China's foreign ministry that the country "urgently" needs medical supplies, such as surgical masks, hazmat suits and goggles.
