145 Special Trains For Migrants To Leave From Maharashtra Today

After a war of words between Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over Shramik Special trains for migrant workers, the news agency ANI reported on Tuesday that 145 Shramik Special trains were being run from Maharashtra today. ANI cited Railway Ministry sources in its Twitter post on Tuesday.

The Maharashtra government is reported to have sought 41 trains for the West Bengal, but the eastern state is not prepared for such a large number in the current circumstances, as it is still recovering from the impact of cyclone Amphan.

The Railway Ministry has reportedly asked the Maharashtra government to sort out the issue with the West Bengal administration and take the matter forward with regard to the number of trains to be run to the eastern state.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had stated earlier that the Rail ministry was not supplying enough trains as sought by the state. Uddhav addressed the people of the state in a Facebook interaction.

Responding to this allegation, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal in a late-night tweet on Monday, observed that it was the Maharashtra government which was not ready with a list of migrants as per protocol.

The Railway Minister, in his tweet, asked the Maharashtra Chief Minister where the list for 125 trains from Maharashtra was? He added that as of 2 am, he had received a list of only 46 trains of which 5 were bound to West Bengal and Odisha which cannot operate due to cyclone Amphan. "We are notifying only 41 trains for today despite being prepared for 125 !!!", Piyush Goyal's tweet read.

However, the issue appears to have been resolved with 145 trains set to leave Maharashtra on Tuesday.
