2 held for robbing taxi from southeast Delhi

New Delhi: Two men have been arrested for allegedly robbing a taxi in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area, police said on Saturday.

The accused have been identified as Akshay (20) and Shantanu Kumar Pandey (29). The duo along with their associate Vineet Singh, who is still absconding, were planning to sell the robbed vehicle but failed to do so, police said, adding that Singh works in a steel factory in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar.

The incident took place on the intervening night of November 17 and 18. According to the police, the driver picked up a woman passenger from Tughlakabad Extension. On the way, when he stopped the car near a traffic signal, the accused, who also came in a taxi, forcibly entered the car.

They evicted the driver and the lady passenger and fled with the vehicle. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) RP Meena said based on manual intelligence and after analysing CCTV footage, several raids were conducted and Akshay and Pandey were arrested from Masoodpur with the robbed taxi. During interrogation, the accused said in order to earn easy money, they along with their third associate planned to rob the car. However, they could not sell it, the DCP said.
