20-year-old hangs herself after her phone gets confiscated

A 20-year-old BCA student hung herself in Piplani locality as she was upset over being rebuked by her mother for spending too time on her smartphone, on Tuesday evening. The victim's mother took her phone away and rebuked for spending time on the phone and proceeded to go out. As soon as her siblings noticed her hanging, they told their mother and she was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was confirmed brought in dead.

"Police reached the spot after getting information from the hospital and registered a case. No suicide note was recovered and cops have seized the mobile phone and further investigations are underway," informed the investigation officer ASI Omkar Singh Thakur.

The deceased, identified as Urvashi Singh, a resident of Kiran Nagar Phase I, was pursuing her BCA. Her father is a contractual employee in BHEL, while her mother runs a grocery shop on the ground floor of their house. She has two siblings, including a sister and brother, told ASI Thakur.

"Urvashi's mother told police that at around 6.30pm, when she was going to her shop, she saw her daughter using her smartphone. She scolded her for being addicted to social media platforms and took away the phone and went to her shop. Upset over her mother's behaviour, Urvashi went into her room and hanged herself. At around 7.30pm, when her brother Amit started searching for her and knocked on her room, but she did not respond. He informed his mother and he family members broke open the door to see her hanging. She was rushed to JP hospital, where she was declared brought dead," reported ASI Thakur.
