Lucknow: Ruling out any alliance in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said that the party will field only their workers on all the seats in the upcoming elections.

On Sunday, addressing a Pratigya Sammelan of Congress Karyakartas in UP's Bulandshahr, Priyanka Gandhi announced that Congress will go solo in the upcoming elections.

The meeting that was organised to discuss internal matters with Congress office bearers from 14 districts, including Agra, Aligarh, Hathras and Bulandshahr, saw many office bearers requesting Priyanka Gandhi not to form an alliance with any party.

"We will nominate only Congress workers for all UP Assembly seats. If Congress has to win, it will win on their own," she said.

The speculation about an alliance started after Bhupesh Bhagel hinted that Congress is open to alliance with local parties.

Congress commenced the Pratigya Sammelan from Bulandshahr and Moradabad with the aim of wooing voters in Western UP, given the ongoing farm agitation.

"I want to congratulate all the karyakartas for strengthening the organisation here in Uttar Pradesh. Today is the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. You must know that in his book he had written the slogan "Bharat Mata ki Jai". The slogan "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" means hail Kisan, hail Sainik, hail workers, hail women." Priyanka Gandhi said.

Taking a jibe at the BJP, which has set a target of winning more than 300 seats in the 403-member assembly, Priyanka Gandhi said, "All freedom fighters knew the importance of freedom. They knew the worth of that freedom, which meant constitutional freedom, financial freedom, and the prevalence of democracy. But when I come to UP, I realize that the BJP doesn't understand this meaning of freedom."

"Clearly, those who didn't fight for freedom, can't respect freedom. The person who builds the house has a different kind of love towards it, but the next generation who gets it for free doesn't have the same feeling. This is why BJP cannot understand the importance of freedom," she added.
