21-year-old doctor from Thane slips into pothole, dies

A 21-year-old doctor died when she was run over by a vehicle and a two-wheeler as it slipped on a pothole in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Thursday.

The fateful incident occured on Wednesday night when Neha Shaikh, residing in Kudus village, was on her way home from Bhiwandi town.

The doctor was supposed to get married next month, and was returning home after making some purchases for her wedding, assistant police inspector Mahesh Sagde said.

She was riding pillion on the two-wheeler being ridden by her brother.

A truck passing by crushed her under its wheels. The driver fled after the incident.

An offence had been registered against the unidentified truck driver under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC, he said. No oarrest had been made so far.
