AIMIM leader and former Byculla MLA, Waris Pathan, in attempting to explain his controversial comments on Thursday, claimed that his provocative remarks in the presence of Hyderabad Lok Sabha MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, were quoted out of context by the media. Pathan said that he is a "proud Indian and respects the plurality of this country." A statement on his behalf says that he could "never say anything intentionally or unintentionally that hurts the sentiments of any caste, community or gender."

The former AIMIM legislator has come in for all-round criticism for his highly provocative remarks saying that 15 crore Muslims would prove to be a powerful force against 100 crore Hindus. A video of his speech in the anti-CAA rally in Gulbarga at which Owaisi was present, went viral. While most political parties have condemned the remarks of the AIMIM leader, the BJP has also questioned the Hyderabad MP's silence on Pathan's remarks.

Meanwhile, on the heels of Amulya Leona Noronha, who raised slogans of "Pakistan Zindabad" at an anti-CAA rally in Bengaluru's Freedom Park, another woman threw pamphlets demanding freedom for Kashmir at the Town Hall. Police arrested the woman, identified as Arudra and charged her with sedition, according to media reports.

Amulya Leona, who was arrested on Thursday, and charged with sedition, has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Her father said that he condemned her pro-Pakistan sloganeering and remarked that she deserves to be punished
