Army Chief MM Naravane To Visit Forward Areas In Ladakh Today
Chief of Army Staff Gen. M.M. Naravane is scheduled review the operational preparedness of troops and the situation on the ground on the second day of his two-day visit to Ladakh. The Army Chief is set to interact with troops on the ground in forward locations on Wednesday.
Gen. Naravane is scheduled to take stock of the disengagement process along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which will be set in motion as per the agreement between the Corps Commanders of both India and China. The Army Chief's two-day visit to forward in Ladakh assumes significance in view of the LAC face-off between Indian and Chinese troops on June 15 in which 20 Indian soldiers were martyred.
The Army Chief interacted with Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal during the course of his visit to forward areas. The Northern Commander and the Leh Corps were also present at the meeting.
Gen. Naravane visited a local Army hospital and interacted with soldiers of the Indian army who sustained injuries in the violent clash with Chinese troops on June 15 and were undergoing treatment.
The Army Chief held a meeting with the top Army Commanders in Delhi on Monday.
Meanwhile, following a 11-hour meeting between Lt. Harinder Singh and his Chinese counterpart, both sides decided to agree upon a gradual and verifiable process of disengagement in various points across Eastern Ladakh. Eventually, this will lower the troop build-up by both sides in the area.
India has deployed its army all along the 3,488 km long border with China after an escalation in tensions on the LAC.
