Army jawan goes missing
New Tehri: An Army jawan went missing on his way to his home here in the district last month.
This came to light when his unit enquired about him from his family in Tehri's Dhaulagiri village, informing them that his 20-day leave ended on July 13.
Dhiraj Singh (21) belonged to the 9th Garhwal Rifles and had proceeded on leave on June 23. The jawan's worried family has approached the district administration with a request to find him as early as possible. His father Ramesh Singh said Dhiraj had left for home on June 23 after being granted 20-day leave till July 13.
"But he did not inform us that he was coming home. He kept calling us as if he was still on duty. He stopped calling us a week ago. Still, we did not suspect that something was wrong. We were shocked when we received a call from his unit, asking us why Dhiraj did not rejoin," he said Jawan's father Ramesh and zila panchayat member Akhilesh Uniyal met the ADG (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar Thursday, requesting him to trace Dhiraj.
The ADG has asked officials to track the jawan's mobile location. The jawan has withdrawn money from different ATMs in Delhi, including Mahipalpur, Paharganj, Chuna Mandi, Banarath Bazar and Netaji Nagar, Tehri SSP Yogendra Singh Rawat said, adding that the case was being investigated from all angles.
