Arvind Kejriwal To Be Sworn In As Delhi CM On Sunday

Update: 2020-02-12 14:42 IST

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal will be sworn in as Chief Minister for the third time on February 16. Kejriwal's swearing-in ceremony will take place at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. A decision on the AAP chief's oath-taking ceremony was taken after a meeting of AAP's legislature party on Wednesday. Arvind Kejriwal met the lieutenant governor of Delhi Anil Baijal and staked his claim to form the government. AAP leader Manish Sisodia told the media that all members of the Kejriwal cabinet will take oath on Sunday.

Speculation is rife about the members of Arvind Kejriwal's cabinet. It is expected that new faces such as Rajendra Nagar MLA, Raghav Chadha and the party's legislator from Kalkaji, Atishi Marlena, could also be included. It remains to be seen, however, whether Manish Sisodia, who is likely to be the deputy chief minister again, would be given the portfolio of education which he had handled earlier.

Other names of the proposed Kejriwal cabinet include the Burari representative, Sanjeev Jha, Okhla MLA, Amanatullah Khan, greater Kailash MLA, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Najafgarh legislator, Gopal Rai. Another name doing the rounds is that of Akhilesh Pati Tripathi, who defeated Kapil Mishra of the BJP. Mishra had defected to the BJP from AAP and described the Delhi elections as an India vs Pakistan contest in a tweet, which he had to delete on the instructions of the Election Commission.

AAP was handed a landslide victory by the Delhi electorate and by the time the final tally was announced on Tuesday, the party had won 62 of the 70 seats. The BJP, despite a high-voltage campaign led by Amit Shah and others, was reduced to 8 seats.
