Arvind Kejriwal Undergoes COVID-19 Test

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday was tested for COVID-19 and the test results are expected later in the night or Wednesday. The Delhi Chief Minister had experienced symptoms of COVID-19 and was advised to undergo a test.

Arvind Kejriwal has placed himself under isolation currently. The Delhi Chief Minister's illness comes at a time when the state government is locked in a tussle with the Lieutenant-Governor over its order restricting treatment in Delhi hospitals for the citizens of the national capital.

Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal set aside the contentious Delhi government order. The Lieutenant Governor's move came in for criticism from Aam Admi Party (AAP) spokesmen. Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh criticised Anil Baijal and attributed the government's decision to the influence of the BJP. He also said that Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal was putting the lives of Delhi citizens at risk.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the national capital has been on the rise inching towards the 30,000 mark. The current tally in Delhi is 57 shy of 30,000 at 29,943. The death count in Delhi has also been high with 874 fatalities.

The health infrastructure in the national capital is stretched to the utmost, and in a latest, more than 300 healthcare professionals in Gangaram Hospital in Delhi have tested positive for COVID-19. The hospital's authorities have stated that there is a dire shortage of staff in the facility.
