Bengaluru High Court questions cops about inaction against noisy pubs

Update: 2019-06-07 11:55 IST

BENGALURU: Chief justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka headed a committee that gave this direction. This came in after the court was informed that no action had been taken even after petitioners were requesting the same since 2015.

Defence Colony residents welfare association and other RWAs stated they had submitted several complaint about the nuisance and sound pollution caused by over 100 pubs and bars within a radius of 2km in their PIL.

The court stated that if no action was taken by the police in this regard, there would be serious consequences.

The petitioners urged the court to direct the authorities not to issue further licences for selling intoxicants in the east Bengaluru locality. They have even sought a direction from the excise commissioner to close the pubs/bars and cancel licences for blatant violation of excise rules and regulations.
