Bengaluru: Woman books case against domestic violence, dowry harassment

A case of domestic violence and dowry harassment case was filed by police on the grounds of the complaint of a 29-year-old techie against her husband of four years living in Bommanahalli City. The woman has made accusations of harassment against Chinmay Mishra, her husband, a software engineer, his brother and parents.

As she was staying with his joint family in the city, she was being physically abused by her husband's brother as well, claims the complainant. She got married to Chinmay in 2015 and was made to feel pain by continuous harassment from him and his family members to get more money so that the family could purchase an apartment in New Delhi, said the complainant.

Tanmay, her brother-in-law also allegedly used to put forth a lot of pressure on her to get him a job in the city. Afterwards, when she refused to get them the money to acquire the apartment, they started pressurizing her to sign on divorce documents, the woman's complaint had also stated thereafter.

Her brother-in-law misbehaved with her and touched her inappropriately alleged the woman. Her husband threatened to set her on fire if she doesn't sign on the divorce papers she added. "When I refused to sign on the divorce papers, my husband and my in-laws threatened to put petrol and set me on fire. The whole family has been harassing me since the last three years," the complaint stated.

"Officials are questioning the family members, but they have been denying the allegations," a police officer told BM.
