BJP versus Mamata Banerjee in Bengal

Update: 2019-05-04 11:06 IST

KOLKATA: BJP had made a bold statement in bengal, where it won only two seats in 2014. Whereas, in this election, the flags are fluttering away in every constituency.

The flags of the BJP outnumber cpm and congress, which indicates clearly that the party is in for a serious fight this time round.

The party leadership claims that, it is focusing on about 20 of the 42 constituencies within the state. BJP is essentially hoping to tap into anti-incumbency and mop up all the anti-mamata votes.

To run the last leg of its campaign, BJP has brought in Sunil Deodhar, its senior RSS leader. Even the insiders of Trinamool have agreed that, there is a possibility of BJP ending up second in the state.

The party is in a close fight with Trinamool with at least 10 seats: Raiganj, Darjeeling, Alipurduar in the north, Malda Uttar, Malda Dakshin, Asansol in central Bengal, and Barrackpore, Krishnanagar, Basirhat and Kolkata Uttar in the south.

According to the poll managers of the party, it is also banking on the "578 companies of central forces to be deployed across the state for every booth to ensure peaceful elections."

BJP is looking to enjoy the fruits of support from regions where it is considered to be a relatively new entity, compared to the tried and tested parties such as, Congress and the Left Front in Bengal.
