BJP's Kapil Mishra Stokes Row Calling For AAP To Be Renamed Muslim League

Update: 2020-02-03 10:50 IST

New Delhi: BJP's MLA candidate from the Model Town constituency in the national capital, stoked a fresh controversy by posting a tweet suggesting that the Aam Aadmi party (AAP) should be renamed Muslim league. Mishra said that the party led by Arvind Kejriwal backed former JNU student Umar Khalid, terror masterminds Afzal Guru and Burhan Wani.

Mishra's latest allegation comes on the heels of Uttar Pradesh chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's high octane campaigning in Delhi on Sunday. Arvind Kejriwal and other party leaders took objection to Yogi Adityanath's remarks, saying that the AAP has been backing Shaheen Bagh protests. Yogi Adityanath also accused Arvind Kejriwal of being busy supplying biryani to the Shaheen Bagh protesters. The UP chief minister remarked that the Shaheen Bagh protesters of being opposed to the abrogation of Article 370, construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya and scrapping of Triple Talaq.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also criticised AAP for its tacit support to the Shaheen Bagh protests and other anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) demonstrations in the national capital. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal and its Rajya Sabha member, Sanjay Singh, have sought strict action against Yogi Adityanath for his provocative remarks. Sanjay Singh commented that the Election Commission should ban the UP chief minister from campaigning in Delhi for his inflammatory remarks which promote social disharmony.

The BJP has been bringing national issues such as CAA, NRC and NPR to the fore, while the AAP has tried to dwell only on development, as electioneering hits top gear.
