Centre grants Rs 3,110 crore for greenery projects in TS

New Delhi: Telangana has been sanctioned Rs 3,110 crore for its afforestation problems and greening projects by the Centre. This was disclosed by Forests and Environment Minister Indrakaran Reddy here on Thursday.

Speaking to the media after attending the meeting of Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA), the Minister said it was decided in the meeting to double up the forest area in the State in the next four years.

He said he had pleaded for funds for the afforestation programmes of the State under Haritha Haram which the government had undertaken as a prestigious project.

He also explained to the Centre the measures taken to protect the forests in the State, tree plantation programmes and utilisation of Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority funds etc., in detail to the Centre.

State government was keen that for every inch of land allocated to projects coming up in the State, at least equal areas would be planted with trees.

Under 'Haritha Haram' itself, 230 crore plants were to be planted. So far 113 crore plants had been planted under it, he explained.
