Update: 2019-12-11 15:56 IST

Since Union Home Minister introduced the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Rajya Sabha today, the bill has faced opposition from various leaders. TMC MP Derek O'Brien said the move is similar to what had happened in Nazi Germany, where millions of Jewish people were prosecuted by the Nazis led by Hitler. In connection to the bill, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi made similar statements, saying the current leadership of the country reminds him of Hitler.

Opposing the bill, Congress leader P Chidambaram questioned the intentions of the bill. speaking in the Rajya Sabha, the leader said, "It is an extremely sad day how the government is running with this unconstitutional Bill. It is our job to see that nothing unconstitutional passes through this House. Why only consider religious persecution? Persecution is done on so many other levels, politically, socially, what about them? This government is ramming through the Citizenship Bill to advance its Hindutva agenda. This is a sad day. I am absolutely clear that this law will be struck off by the judiciary," said the leader who is currently out of jail on a bail.

The country has been protesting against the bill, which is especially severe in the northeastern part of the country. With protests uderway in Assam, the government has moved Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) from Jammu and Kashmir to Assam. As per reports, 20 CRPF companies will be sent to Assam from Jammu and Kashmir. A special train has also been started to help security personnel reach Assam conveniently.
