Coronavirus: Centre decides to lockdown 75 districts across the country
Janata Curfew call given by the primo Minister Narendra Modi has got a good response as the people of the nation have participated in the curfew by staying indoors. Meanwhile, the central and state governments have decided to lock down 75 districts across the country where coronavirus cases have been reported. The lockdown will be continued till March 31, the officials said.
The latest decision was reportedly taken at a high-level meeting attended by chief secretaries of all states and the cabinet secretary and the principal secretary to the prime minister. As per the Union Home Ministry, it was agreed that there is a need for the extension of the restrictions on the movement of non-essential passenger transport, including interstate transport buses till March 31.
However, it is reported that the state governments would issue orders allowing only essential services to operate in about 75 districts including Prakasam, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal and Sangareddy in Telangana. The states that were announced lockdown include Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. The state governments have the power to expand the list depending on the situation.
On the other hand, it was also decided to suspend the train services till March 31, including suburban rail services other than goods trains. The metro rail services were also stopped till March 31.
As per the statistical reports, the total number of novel coronavirus cases in India rose to 341 on Sunday after fresh cases were reported from various parts of the country, the Union Health Ministry said.
