Coronavirus Crisis: Health Minister To Chair GoM Meeting
New Delhi: Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan will hold a meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) through video conference at 11 AM today. The meeting is likely to review the coronavirus crisis in various parts of the country in the light of the relaxation of all lockdown restrictions.
The GoM is likely to review the overall situation in the country in the wake of unlock 1.0 with the coronavirus pandemic showing no signs of abating in various parts of the country. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also flagged the increase in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide.
India recorded 9,987 new cases over the last 24 hours and is currently the sixth worst affected country in the world in terms of the severity of the coronavirus pandemic. The countrywide count stands at two, 66, 598 with 7466 deaths. Meanwhile, across the country, barring in containment zones, malls, restaurants, places of worship and markets have opened and the Centre is monitoring the situation closely.
India has seen a recovery rate of over 48%. The bulk of cases in the country have been reported from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. The caseload of the three states adds up to 1.50 lakh cases, constituting a majority of the confirmed coronavirus cases in the country.
The GoM is likely to take a look at various aspects related to unlock 1.0 including the prospects of recommencement of international commercial flights and educational institutions, according to media reports.
