Coronavirus Outbreak: Centre Sends Top AIIMS Medical Team To Gujarat
Ahmedabad: Following a request from the Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for expert assistance from the Centre on managing the coronavirus pandemic situation in the state, the Union Government dispatched a team of top doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), in Delhi to the state.
A medical team of experts comprising top doctors from AIIMS, including its Director, Dr RandeepGuleria, rushed to Ahmedabad to provide expert guidance to doctors there on COVID-19 management. Gujarat and Maharashtra have come under close scrutiny due to the sharp spike in COVID-19 cases in both states. Gujarat also reported a higher number of deaths from COVID-19 cases.
Dr Guleria, a pulmonologist, and Dr Manish Soneja from the AIIMS Department of Medicine reached Ahmedabad by a special Indian Air Force flight on Friday evening. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had reportedly instructed AIIMS Director Dr RandeepGuleria to leave for Ahmedabad along with his team by a special IAF flight and visit Civil Hospital and SVP hospital to provide expert guidance and advice to doctors there on COVID-19 treatment.
390 more people tested positive for COVID-19 and 24 fatalities were reported taking the total number of cases in Gujarat to 7,403. The death toll in the state reached 449 on Friday.
A major source of concern for the authorities is the fact that of the total coronavirus cases in the state, 5,260 have been reported from Ahmedabad district alone.
