Coronavirus Update: India COVID-19 Count Mounts To 2,66,598
The coronavirus pandemic showed no signs of abating with rising numbers of COVID-19 cases being reported from across the country. India's tally has now mounted to 2,66,598 with 7,466 deaths, according to the latest update put out on Tuesday morning by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The country recorded nearly 10,000 cases over the last 24 hours.
Moving to the position of the fifth worst-affected country in the world, India now has 1,29,917 active cases across the states, while 1,29,215 have been cured or discharged. The ten states recording the highest numbers of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar and Karnataka.
Maharashtra is the worst affected state in the country with Mumbai turning into the epicentre of the coronavirus crisis. The state's COVID-19 tally has now climbed to 88,528 with a death count of 3,169.
Tamil Nadu has been battling the spread of COVID-19 infections even as the spread continues and numbers go up. The overall tally in the state has now reached 33,229. Tamil Nadu has a low death rate and has recorded 286 fatalities.
Delhi is reeling under the onslaught of coronavirus spread, with the total count in the national capital inching towards the 30 k mark. It now stands at 29,943 cases. The Delhi death count has jumped to 874.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gujarat has now reached 20,545 with the death count mounting to 1,280.
Rajasthan's tally has now reached 10,763 confirmed coronavirus patients with 246 deaths.
Uttar Pradesh has seen a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases after the return of migrants. However, reports coming from the state suggest that more than rural pockets, it is the urban centres like Lucknow, NOIDA, Meerut and Kanpur which are a source of concern for the authorities. UP has recorded 10,947 confirmed coronavirus cases and 275 deaths.
Madhya Pradesh has also been badly hit by COVID-19 and the return of migrants has compounded the problem. The state has reported 9,638 confirmed COVID-19 cases with a high mortality rate of 414 deaths.
West Bengal, which is in the top ten worst-affected states, has so far reported 8,613 cases of coronavirus with 405 deaths.
Karnataka has reported 5,764 cases of COVID-19 with 64 deaths .
Bihar has seen a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases with the tally mounting to 5,202 and 31 deaths.
