Counter Protest At Shaheen Bagh

New Delhi: A counter protest with the slogan, 'Vacate Shaheen Bagh' brewed barely 100 metres from the protest site in the national capital on Sunday morning. As the crowd began to gather, Delhi police swung into action and barricaded the demonstrators.

The protesters claimed that they were not affiliated to any political party and that they belonged to localities around Shaheen Bagh. The demonstrators claimed that they had been inconvenienced on account of the blockade by the Shaheen Bagh protesters.

One of the members of the counter protest told a reporter from a television channel that ambulances were getting delayed and in one instance, a person died due to such delay.

The counter protest was marred with slogans of "shoot the traitors." Police were deployed in large numbers to keep the protesters at bay. Senior police officials appealed to the demonstrators to clear the road. Many of them refused to do so claiming that they would continue their counter protest till the Shaheen Bagh protest site was it cleared. They demanded that protesters at Shaheen Bagh go to Jantar Mantar and continue their agitation.

Meanwhile, Amit Malviya, BJP spokesman told a television channel that the counter protest was a logical response to the Shaheen Bagh protest which has gone on for fifty days without any signs of an end to it.
