COVID-19 Alert: Infosys Evacuates Satellite Building In Bengaluru

Infosys, the IT giant, announced in a statement on Saturday, that it had decided to vacate one of its satellite buildings in Bengaluru as a precautionary measure. One of the employees of the company has reportedly been in contact with a suspected patient of COVID-19, according to the statement released by Infosys.

Infosys has directed its employees to work from home and has stated that the company's work would not suffer. There would be no impact on "client deliverables as a result of this temporary evacuation, Infosys has clarified.

Infosys also pointed out that the company took this measure to ensure the "safety of our employees and undertake a comprehensive disinfection exercise at our facility".

Six COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka out of the countrywide number of 82 to date. The state has also seen one of the two deaths reported from Coronavirus and other symptoms so far. The other death, a 68-year-old lady, was reported from the national capital.

The Karnataka government has ordered the closure of schools, malls, theatres, pubs and other public places as a precautionary step against the spread of COVID-19.

The Government of India has already invoked the National Diseases and Epidemic Act (1897). It has also suspended visas till April 15 and has put a slew of precautionary measures in place to tackle the health emergency arising out of COVID-19.
