COVID-19: Delhi LG, AAP Govt. Differ On 5 Day Institutional Quarantine
New Delhi: Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal ordered a five-day mandatory institutional quarantine for every coronavirus positive patient under home isolation in Delhi. The Arvind Kejriwal government reacted to this move saying that it was arbitrary and would impact the national capital.
As per Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal's directives, all COVID-19 patients in Delhi, whether they are symptomatic or asymptomatic would be placed in mandatory institutional quarantine for a period of five days.
AAP leaders stated that people would not get themselves tested for coronavirus if this was the case. Secondly, they also pointed out that there would be a dearth of doctors and healthcare professionals who would be available for treatment in case every patient were to be placed in institutional quarantine.
AAP MLA Raghav Chadha remarked that the Delhi government had estimated that the national capital would need 15,000 beds by June 30, but in the light of the LG order on mandatory institutional quarantine, this would go up by six times to 90,000. He questioned as to where the Delhi government would get 90,000 beds from.
Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain who tested positive for coronavirus was administered plasma therapy. Though he no longer had a fever, the Delhi Health Minister's condition continues to be serious and is being monitored.
