COVID-19 Review: PM Modi To Chair Cabinet Meeting Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a cabinet review meeting over the COVID-19 pandemic at 10:30 am at his official residence on Wednesday. PM Modi and his cabinet colleagues will take stock of the situation arising out of the nationwide lockdown announced by him in his televised address to the nation on Tuesday night in the wake of the spread of COVID-19.

PM Modi, in his address to the nation on Tuesday night, stressed on the need to stay indoors and compared the countrywide lockdown to a curfew. He reminded the citizens of the country that only essential services were exempted from the lockdown and that citizens would have access to them.

PM Modi appealed to his fellow-citizens to rise to the occasion and help the government battle the deadly coronavirus. The people of the country could do so by following government instructions and staying indoors, he observed.

Shortly after the announcement of nationwide lockdown by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a set of guidelines spelling out essential services which were exempted from the lockdown and those which were banned.

India has so far recorded 562 COVID-19 confirmed cases with over 500 active cases. The highest number of coronavirus cases have been reported from Maharashtra (107) followed by Kerala (105). The deadly virus has so far claimed 11 lives across the country.
