COVID-19 Update: India Tally Climbs To 2,26,770
The coronavirus pandemic in the country saw a huge surge once again with a spike of close to 10,000 cases in a single day. India's overall tally rising sharply now stands at 2,26,770 as per the Friday morning update put out by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The countrywide death count has reached 6,348.
There are 1,10,960 active cases across the states, while 1,09,462 people have been cured or discharged. Here is a look at the ten states recording the highest numbers of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country.
Maharashtra continues to report the highest number of cases with the state's COVID-19 tally now climbing to 77,793. The death count in the state stands at 2,710.
Tamil Nadu has so far recorded 27,256 confirmed coronavirus cases with 220 deaths.
Delhi has seen a sudden spike in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases with the total count in the national capital now crossing 25,000 cases. The Delhi tally now stands at 25,004 with 650 deaths.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gujarat now stands at 18,584 with the death count climbing to 1,155.
Rajasthan's tally has nearly reached 10,000 climbing to 9,862 confirmed coronavirus patients with 213 deaths.
Uttar Pradesh has recorded 9,237 confirmed coronavirus cases with 245 deaths.
Madhya Pradesh has reported 8,762 confirmed COVID-19 cases with a mortality rate of 377 deaths.
West Bengal has so far reported 6,876 cases of coronavirus with 355 deaths.
Bihar has so far recorded nearly 5000 cases with the COVID-19 tally in the state reaching 4,493 with 29 deaths, while Karnataka has reported 4,320 cases of COVID-19 with 57 deaths .
