New Delhi: Congress leader PC Chacko who was in charge of the Delhi assembly elections resigned after the party was decimated in the polls. Earlier, DPCC chief Subhash Chopra had also resigned as head of the Congress unit in the state accepting moral responsibility for the election rout of the Congress.

Shortly after the results were announced, Chacko found himself in the eye of a storm with his comment that the decline of the Congress party could be traced to former chief minister Sheila Dikshit. Observing that the downfall of the Congress began in 2013 when the late Sheila Dixit was the chief minister, Chacko remarked that the party could not take on the new political outfit headed by Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after its emergence in 2013.

Many Congressmen criticised PC Chacko for his remarks against Sheila Dixit saying that she had in fact developed Delhi's infrastructure during her time. Congress leader from Mumbai, Milind Deora pointed out that the late Sheila Dixit had dedicated her life to serving the people of Delhi. Deora recalled— "Sheila Dikshit ji was a remarkable politician and administrator. During her tenure as Chief Minister, Delhi was transformed, and Congress was stronger than ever.

Unfortunate to see her being blamed after her death."
