Elevated Corridor Project Tender won't move ahead

BENGALURU: On Tuesday, the representatives of various citizen groups, who are demanding cancellation of the controversial elevated corridor project tender, were assured by the chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, that the government won't be moving ahead with the plan without holding public consultations.

As per sources, "The CM has magnanimously agreed to conduct wide-ranging and open public consultations on the issue of mobility itself, including the proposed elevated corridor project, before proceeding. The chief minister said public transport is his priority and that he wished to develop Bengaluru as a high-quality liveable city. He also mentioned that he's not committed to any one project or the other, adding that this crisis is an opportunity for him to create a legacy for a sustainable Bangalore for many decades to come."

On the 16th of March, as a part of the 'Tender Raddu Maadi' protest, over 2,000 people who have been representing over 60 civic groups had gathered near Gandhi Statue on Race Course Road, demanding a public consultation on the project.

Kumaraswamy had received a mobility report from professor Ashish Verma, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and had said that, he will personally be reviewing the document and alternative proposals. Also a consolidated set of demands from the citizens were received and he promised to come to an understanding with all the sections.
