Everybody knows who stood for the cause of Sabarimla: Sasikumara Varma

BJP would be in the forefront to protect Sabarimala tradition said the BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai. His party would not dither to search legislation methods if the same is upheld capable of defending the rights of Ayyappa devotees, said Pillai.

Following Pandalam palace representative Sasikumara Varma's statement that the Centre could have disseminated a regulation, at least as an honorable gesture, towards acknowledging the thoughts of Ayyappa devotees, Pillai said so on Thursday.

"Even if the ordinance could not bring in a lasting solution to the burning issue, the central government could have attempted the same as a noble gesture towards those who are pained over the deliberate attempts to defile the Sabarimala temple tradition," Varma said. "Everybody knows who stood for the cause of Sabarimla. They would be recognized by people," he added.

It was Pillai's indecisive proclamations on the topic of Sabarimala issue that encouraged Varma to voice up said the sources close to the erstwhile royal family. The Pandalam palace had arranged a draft regulation and submitted the same to the Union ministers and MPs. But the BJP leaders in Kerala did not back such an action.

Pillai said his words were partial and misdirected as if to generate an impression that he had declined to accept Sabarimala as a major election issue.

"I haven't said anywhere that Sabarimala is a non-issue. BJP candidates have the right to draw peacefully public attention to attempts to destroy beliefs and traditions and the atrocities against Sabarimala devotees. It's the election committees in respective constituencies that decide the major local issues. BJP candidate and workers in Pathanamthitta have the right to take up the Sabarimala issue 'lawfully' and campaign," Pillai said.
