Fact Check: Coronavirus Vaccine Launch in India
Amid the growing number of COVID-19 cases in India, much fake news and misinformation have surfaced on different social media websites. Though we need not believe all that we find on the internet is true. We should always check the facts before believing and sharing them.
A similar message claiming that a vaccine against coronavirus has been launched in India is going viral on WhatsApp. The message has a link and asks the readers to download the "Vaccine App" to get registered for vaccination.
Though, the government has not announced anything like this. Disproving such claims on the social media platform, the fact check wing of the Government's Press Information Bureau said the post is fake and clarified that no coronavirus vaccine had been launched in India.
Exposing the false claims, PIB wrote, "A WhatsApp forward is claiming that a 'Corona Vaccine' has been launched in India and people have to register for it by downloading a 'Vaccine App.' #PIBFactCheck: This Claim is #Fake. No #COVID19 vaccine has been launched in the country yet."
At present, India is performing clinical trials of various Covid-19 vaccines. Bharat Biotech, which is preparing India's indigenous coronavirus vaccine, is planning to launch the vaccine in the second quarter of next year if approved from regulatory authorities.
