Bhopal: The crime branch wing of Bhopal police on Monday registered an FIR against former chief minister and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh with respect to circulation on social media of an alleged "edited" video of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh's old statement on the liquor policy of his predecessor, Kamal Nath. The FIR was reportedly filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Digvijaya Singh for sharing the edited video on the popular microblogging site Twitter.

Police are also reported to have filed charges against 11 others in the case. The others against whom the complaint has been filed and charged booked, are yet to be named.

BJP leaders filed a complaint with the crime branch of Bhopal police stating that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had spoken against the Kamal Nath government's liquor policy on January 12. In their complaint they are reported to have said that this 2.19 minute video was edited to 9 seconds and shared on Twitter by Digvijaya Singh to tarnish the image of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

A number of BJP leaders including former minister Umashankar Gupta, Vishwas Sarang, Rameshwar Sharma and Sumit Pachauri are said to have filed a complaint against Digvijaya Singh with respect to the edited video.

While Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the original video had criticised the then chief minister Kamal Nath's move to open liquor shops, the 9 second clip portrays his speech differently, they alleged.

Congress leader and former minister PC Sharma is reported to have said that the BJP government should investigate the source of the video. He is said to have remarked that when the video has been deleted then why should any action be taken.
