First Coronavirus patient to receive plasma therapy in Agra returns home after recovery

Agra: Agra won a major battle against Covid-19 on Friday when the first serious patient of Coronavirus returned home after receiving plasma therapy.

Speaking on the occasion, Agra Divisional Commissioner Anil Kumar thanked the plasma donors and expressed hope that another woman patient who was receiving plasma therapy will also return home soon after getting cure from the virus.

The SN Medical College in Agra has sought permission from the ICMR for initiating the therapy on four more patients. So far, only 12 out of 1,264 patients who have recovered from Covid-19 in Agra, have donated their plasma out of which two donors have donated their plasma for a patient with AB+ blood group in Noida. The commissioner appealed to the citizens of Agra to adopt all possible safety measures against Covid-19 as each and every life is valuable.

SN Medical College Principal Dr Sanjay Kala said, "It was very heartening that the first-ever patient to receive plasma therapy at SN Medical College recovered fully and returned home. Dr Ajit Chahar, Dr Arti Agarwal, and Dr Neetu Agarwal are the team of doctors involved with this treatment."

70 teams of the health department visited 6,276 households on Friday and conducted a health survey of 26,724 people. 45 of them were subjected to the antigen test and all tested negative.

District Magistrate Prabhu N Singh issued an appeal to the Muslim population living in Agra to maintain social distancing and adopt Covid-19 protection measures during the celebrations of Eid-ul-Azha.

With 24 new Covid-19 cases being reported, the tally has reached 1,581 in Agra. So far there have been 96 deaths and 1,291 patients have recovered.

37,836 samples have been taken and the recovery rate has dropped slightly to 81.66 per cent. As of now there are 89 containment and buffer zones in Agra.
