Former IAS officer and election reformer TN Sesham breathed his last at 86

Former Central Election Commissioner and Election Reformer TN Sheshan, 87 who showed the power of election commission and common man to the politicians died of a heart attack. He was suffering from a severe illness for some time and died in Chennai on November 10. Thirunallai Narayana Iyer Seshan born in 1932 in Palakkad district of Kerala and completed his schooling in the same village.

He completed his graduation from Madras Christian College and went for higher studies at Harvard University. After completing his studies in 1955, he served as an IAS officer for Tamil Nadu. In 1989, he served as Union Cabinet Secretary; later he was appointed as the 10th Chief Election Commissioner of the Central Election Commission.

He held office from December 12, 1990, to December 11, 1996. During his term as the Election Commissioner, he introduced several reforms in the electoral process. He has implemented the Model Code of Conduct in connection with elections, which is meant for punishing the people who violate this election code. The Government of India honoured him with the Raman Megasese Award in 1996 for his services during his tenure.
