R M Babu Murugavel, who is the spokesperson of the AIADMK and a former MLA from the DMDK, was seeking direction to the state chief electoral officer, as he came up to the Madras high court, to take action on a complaint filed against DMK president M K Stalin for alleged abuse of the model code of conduct.

The code of conduct prohibits leveling false proclamations by any contender of his agent or any other person in public domain, according to Babu. Apart from this, from time to time, the ECI has dispensed general advisory instructing the candidates to maintain a high standard throughout election campaigns.

On the other hand, with a purpose to spoil the reputation of the chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Stalin and the DMK, have been sending across video clips on social media making accusations connecting Palaniswami with the Kodanad estate murder and robbery case.

The chief minister has moved a civil suit in the high court in connection with the issue, said Babu. The petitioner said that the DMK and its leaders are making such harsh accusations against the chief minister in most of its election campaigns, which are defamatory and outrageous, although the temporary injunction is still effective.

The petitioner submitted that he was forced to approach the high court for relief, as elections are scheduled for April 18 and the DMK making such accusations on a daily basis and with no action by the CEO.
