Happy Birthday to Amartya Sen: The man who criticised the capitalism
Amartya Sen, one of the most influential economist, Indian nobel laureate, philosopher and public intellectual is turning 86 years on Nov 3rd i. e today.
Born into a family of academicians, Sen was best known for his works in the causes of famine. Sen had a seminal and profound influence on the Human Development paradigm and capability approach. He is also initiater of the capability approach.
He is known to be called the Mother Teresa of the economics for his salient works which helped to improve the lives of poor through his economic reforms.
Apart from being a great economist, Amartya Send is a good writer who wrote many books on philosophy and Economics. As a writer he got break through with his book named Poverty and Famines which depicts the lack of food to the poor and purchase of food. Sen created deeper understanding of the economic reasons behind poverty and famines.
Sen is the greatest critic of capitalism where he concentrates on material inequality. Most importantly his work is on lack of food and his book poverty and Famine will give better understanding. Amartya Sen did research on inclusive economic and sustainable economic.
Sen has made contributions to welfare economics, social choice theory, economic and social justice for which he received Noble prize in the year 1998 after Rabindranath Tagore.
Currently, seen serves as professor of economics and philosophy at Harvard University.
