Hearing of the Rafale fighter jets deal case at SC

New Delhi: Supreme Court had began the hearing on pleas which are seeking for a review of its judgment regarding the Rafale fighter jets deal case.

The Attorney General KK Venugopal has claimed that, the privilege over Rafale documents, refers to section 123 of Evidence Act and provisions of RTI Act. As per the provision of Evidence Act, no one can produce privileged documents in court without the permission of the concerned department.

Venugopal says that, "The acquisitions related to the Defence are security of the nation. Security of the state supersedes everything. They have produced it after stealing it. State documents can't be published without explicit permission."

He also told the Supreme court to direct removal of the leaked pages from the review petitions as the government seems to claim privilege over these documents too.
