Himachal Speaker lauds AAP model
Shimla : Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Rajiv Bindal on Saturday mooted the need to study the AAP government model in the national capital, the best in the country, to facilitate the legislators. The AAP government has provided facilities to enable the legislators to function in a professional manner, Bindal informed the BJP-dominated Assembly.
He said members of the legislative Assembly have an office in their constituency provided by the Delhi government. The salary of the legislators was sufficient enough to sustain their household and office expenses.
"They are getting a salary of Rs 3 lakh per month. There should be some system here (Himachal Pradesh) too where the legislators can get a hike in salary automatically," said Bindal.
He was participating at a debate to pass a Bill to hike in travel allowances by air, train or taxi outside the state by the ministers, the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, the legislators and former legislators along with families from Rs 2.50 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.
The Speaker also praised a provision made by the AAP government to appoint one research scholar for two constituencies to assist the legislators about the welfare programmes and schemes. Each research scholar is entitled to get a salary of Rs 1 lakh from the government, he added.
