IB Official's Killing: Police Complaint Against Wall Street Journal Report

The digital wing of Government of India's public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati News Service, reported in a series of tweets that police complaints had been filed against The Wall Street Journal with the Delhi Police and Maharashtra Police for "defaming a particular religion and spreading communal tension" with respect to alleged misreporting on the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) official Ankit Sharma.

According to PBNS, the WSJ had quoted Ankit Sharma's brother Ankur as having said that Ankit was killed by a mob chanting slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram'.

Speaking to PBNS, Ankur Sharma, brother of the murdered IB official discredited the WSJ report, "I never gave such a statement to Wall Street Journal. This is a ploy to defame my brother and my family. Wall Street Journal is lying," he is quoted as having said.

How the Wall Street Journal reacts to these allegations of misreporting and further police inquiry into the matter, remains to be seen. Its report had been the subject of debate on Twitter over the past two days with its fair share of backers and critics.

The WSJ report also flies in the face of what local residents were seen telling several TV channels and charges filed by the Delhi Police in its FIR against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor, Tahir Hussain. Family members of Sharma have told several media outlets that they suspect the AAP councillor Tahir Hussain and others in his office for the brutal killing of Sharma. They sought a thorough probe into the matter.
