IMD: Heatwave To Continue Over North India With Peak Intensity Today
Most parts of Northern India were in the grip of severe heat wave and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that heatwave conditions would worsen on Tuesday. The IMD forecast related to the north west, central and some interior parts of eastern India. IMD predicted that the present heatwave conditions were likely to continue to prevail over north-west India, central India and adjoining interior parts of eastern India till Thursday hitting a peak intensity on Tuesday.

The highest temperatures recorded are at Churu 47.5, Prayagraj-47.1 and Nagpur-47.0 deg C.

IMD had put out a tweet on Monday stating that the high temperatures are likely to continue across parts of North India till Wednesday and dip from Thursday on account of rain or thunderstorms. IMD also stated that severe heatwave conditions were observed at isolated pockets at most places over Vidarbha region in Maharashtra and in many places over west Rajasthan. It also noted that heatwave was observed at many places over east Uttar Pradesh and at a few places over Delhi and Haryana, as also Madhya Pradesh.
IMD also pointed out that heatwave conditions were likely to continue over the next 23 days in isolated pockets over Punjab, Chhattisgarh, interior Odisha, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh Maharashtra, Marathwada, interior Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar and Jharkhand.
North India, reeling under the Coronavirus pandemic is now witnessing sweltering heat conditions. In addition to the heat amid the COVID-19 crisis, large swarms of locusts have been attacking crops in north Indian states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh Uttar Pradesh, among others.
