Coronavirus in India: 64,000+ new cases reported in the country in 24 hours
Coronavirus in India: Coronavirus cases in India mounted to over 21.53 lakh after over 64,000 people tested positive for the infection in 24 hours. Coronavirus cases count in India stood at 21,53,011 after the country registered a single-day spike of 64,399 cases on Sunday. This is the third consecutive day that the coronavirus cases have increased by more than 60,000. In the past 24 hours, 861 people dead to coronavirus, taking India's death toll to 43,379.
Among the reported cases, 628,747 are active cases, comprising 29.20 per cent of the total caseload in the country. A total of 14,80,885 have recovered from the virus and discharged.
A total of 7,19,364 samples were tested on Saturday which is the highest in a single day. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, A total of 2,41,06,535 samples have been tested so far.
Speaking on this, scientist and ICMR media coordinator Lokesh Sharma said, "India is performing around 500 tests for detection of coronavirus per minute and the per-day testing capacity has increased over five lakhs."
Of the 861 more deaths on Saturday, 275 are from Maharashtra, 118 are from Tamil Nadu, 97 are from Andhra Pradesh and 93 are from Karnataka. Of the total 43,379 deaths, Maharashtra has reported a maximum of 17,367, followed by 4,808 in Tamil Nadu, 4,098 in Delhi and 3,091 in Karnataka. There have been 2,628 deaths in Gujarat, 2,028 in Uttar Pradesh, 2,005 in West Bengal, 1,939 in Andhra Pradesh and 977 in Madhya Pradesh.
